POWER BOATING

ANNUAL OCEAN RACE OWLES SHIELD WON' BY MOREWA The annual ocean race for the Captain Owles Shield was held by the New Brighton Power-Boat Club on Saturday afternoon, over a course of 12J miles, to tbe New Brighton Pier, starting at the moles at Lyttelton at 2 o’clock. Five boats entered for the race, and all got away on time except Romany Rye (C. Cree), which lost eight minutes through engine trouble, and retired from the race. In the harbour the sea was choppy, with a light easterly wind. On reaching the heads slightly rougher conditions were met, but the boats made good headway and four finished. The results were:— Morewa, 18mln (S. Hawker), ihr 22min 1 Pacific, scr (L. A. Curtis), Ihr lOmin .. 2 Islay, Bmin (Beaumont and Kennett), Ihr 20min .. .. .. 3 Senorita, Ihr 18min (W. H.
