THE AGA KHAN JOINS IN PRAYER
GIFT OF GOLD FOR WELFARE I OF MOHAMMEDANS I (Received January 20, 7.20 p.m.) LONDON, January 19. The Bombay correspondent of "The Times" says the Aga Khan, announcing that because of the King's illness, the non-religious portions of the ceremonies of his own golden jubilee would be abandoned, assisted in the prayers of 30,000 of his followers for his Majesty's recovery. In response to an invitation the Aga Khan seated himself on one side of a huge -air of scales, while the leaders placed a bar of gold on the other, until the beam tipped down taking £25,125 worth of gold, which the Aga Khan announced would be devoted to the welfare ol Ismaili Mohammedans in India, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. TELEGRAM SENT FROM | CURISTCUURCH ! The illness of the King was referred to at the civic welcome yesterday to Colonel J. L. Sleeman, chief commissioner of the St. John Ambulance Brigade overseas. Colonel Sleeman said that he hoped that the courage which his Majesty had shown in his last serious illness would help him to recover his normal health very sonn. The Mayor, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, who presided, said that with the approval of the gathering he would send a telegram to the Gover-nor-General, Lord Galway, expressing a wish for his Majesty's speedy recovery. This was unanimously approved. Sympathy with the King and the Royal Family in his Majesty's illness was expressed at a meeting of the executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association last evening, and it was decided that a letter be sent to the headquarters of 'the association to be forwarded to the Royal Family with other expressions of sympathy from other branches of the association.
