Fraser (Minister for Education and for Health) will arrive in Nelson on Friday morning at, 9 o'clock. ■" The Minister will visit the Girls* College, and at 9.45 he will call at Nelson College. After inspections have been made, the Minister will meet the College Council, of Governors to, hear representations about the rebuilding of the main block at Nelson College and other matters. At 11.30 he will be met by the Nelson Education Board. A civic reception-has been arranged by the Mayor (Mr G. L. Page) for midday on Friday at the City Council Chamber. Between 2 p.m. and 4 pjn. the Minister wiE visit primary schools, and he will meet deputations on Saturday at 950 o'clock. The Minister expects to. visit the Cawthron Institute at 10,45 ain. He will visit the Nelson Hospital f ahd meet the Hospital Board in-the evening/ Mr Fraser will give the Burns "address at the Nelson Scottish Society's annual celebrations, leaving Neljgonson Sunday morning. The Minister: witf spend the night at Takaka. Q n Monday he will visit the ' Collingwood, Takaka, and Motueka Schools, and well iretunv to Nelson to Join, the boat for Wellington. Mrs Fraser will accompany the Minister on bis tour of the district. Obituary The death has occurred at her home in Cambria street, at the age of 95 years, of Miss Mary Jennings, a wellknown and highly-respected resident of the city, who was connected with the earliest days of Nelson. » Miss Jennings, who .was bom in England, came to New Zealand with her parents, Mr and Mrs William Jennings, at the age of 18 months, in the ship Mary Ann, landing at Nelson in 1842. Apart from several years spent in teaching at Tua Marina, Miss Jennings spent most of her life in Nelson. She taught a little school in a room in a house in Cambria street, where she lived until her death. For 23 years also, Miss Jennings assisted as a teacher in Matthew Campbell's Sunday School, which was situated where the Suter Art Gallery now stands. On giving up school teaching, Miss Jennings kept house for a number of years for different members of her family. The house in Cambria street has been occupied by the Jennings family for more than 76 years. There was a large family, and Miss Jennings survived all except Mrs Emma Hunter, a sister.'of Nelson, and Mr F. Jerinings, of Wellington.; The last years of Miss Jennings's life were spent quietly, but she remained active until the last, and retained a good memory for the events of early days in the colony. Personal Mrs H. S. Claughton is the Nelson delegate to the Dominion Music Teachers' annual conference being held at Wellington this week. A meeting of the Nelson Provincial Tobacco Growers' Association, alter a ballot, nominated Messrs J. F. Balck, B. T. Rowling, F. A. Hamilton, and H.. G. Stringer as producers' representatives on the Tobacco Control Board. The board will comprise four* representatives eaeh of growers and manufacturers and one Government nominee.
