AUSTRALIAN PLAYERS* VISIT FINANCIAL SUCCESS OF MATCH » The visit to Christchurch of V. B. McGrath and E. F. Moon, the Australian lawn tenr-is players, who met a Canterbury team at Wilding Park, resulted in a profit to the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association of a little more than £sl. The net gate takings amounted to £l6l 18s, and the expenses were £SO. The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association's share of the takings was £6O. Members of the management committee of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association, at their meeting last evening, expressed satisfaction at the financialbutcome of the match. There were present:—Messrs J. Mercer (in the chair), P. R. Harman, G. L. Berry, S. W., Field, J. L. Squire, J H. W. Sheppard, T. W. Patterson, J. R. Johnston, R. Browning, W. M. Hawkins, and S. W. Jameson (secretary). It was reported that a profit of £l6 8s 6d had been made on the Christmas open and handicap tournament. Representative Matches * An invitation was received from the Nelson Lawn Tennis Association for a team from Canterbury to visit Nelson to play a Nelson team on February 1. The association offered to billet the players and to pay the cost of transport. A sub-committee was appointed to ascertain what transport and players were available. The South Canterbury Association suggested March 14 as the date for the annual match between Canterbury and South Canterbury, at Christchurch. The date was agreed to, and it was decided to invite the Otago Association and the South Canterbury Asso--1 ciation to express an opinion on the [ suggestion that matches between Canj terbury teams and the two southern associations be played on the same date. It was stated that owing to the heavy programme of representative and championship matches in Christchurch this season, it would be difficult to allot separate dates for the matches. Although no formal challenge has yet been received for the . Anthony Wilding Memorial Shield and the Kathleen Nunheley Casket, at present held by Canterbury, it was stated that Wellington intended to challenge, and would suggest; March 6 and 7 for the matches. Members thought that these dates would be acceptable. Hire of Courts, N The grounds committee recommended that th> following scales of charges for the hire 6£ courts at Wilding Park be adopted:— Grass Courts—Mornings, 5s a "court; afternoons Saturday),

7s; afternoons (after 5 o'clock), 3s 6d; Saturday afternoon (if available). Bs. Courts may be booked by affiliated clubs by the month at the special rate of 2s 6d a court each evening after 5 o clock, application to be made through the club secretaries. KAIKOURA TEAM VISITS WAIAU ■ A team of six women and six men from the Takahanga Tennis Club, Kaikoura, paid a visit to Waiau at the week-end and played a series of friendly matches against the Waiau Club teams. An excellent day's tennis was enjoyed and the visitors were hospitably entertained at luncheon, morning and afternoon tea. At the conclusion of the play thanks were expressed to the Waiau Club by Mr T. Drabble, for Takahanga, and Mr L. Whitham (Waiau Club captain) expressed pleasure at the visit.
