GERMAN COLONIAL CLAIMS

—. —* “Cannot Rely On The League” DR. GOEBBELS SPEAKS OF TAKING THE SWORD (UKITKD FRES3 ASSOCIATION—IOPT*J»BT.) (Received January 19, 11.15 p.m.) BERLIN, January ID. “The time will come when Germany must demand her colonics back,” declared Dr. P. J. Goebbcls (Nazi Minister for Propaganda), addressing 20,000 Nazis at Berlin. He added that Germany could not continue, to live as a poor country while the rest of the world rolled in wealth. “We are beggars,'’ he said. “We have no colonies and no raw materials. We are confronted with difficulties which cannot be overcome by internal methods. “Other countries do not need the colonies which they have taken from us. It is dangerous for the world not to concede such demands, because some day the bomb will ex•plode.” Dr. Goebbels added: “There are moments when one has to take the swoi’d and cut the knot. We do not want to interfere in the conflict between Britain and Abyssinia on the one hand and Italy on the other: but Germany is learning a lesson from the situation, namely, that a nation without power cannot preserve peace, and that we cannot rely on the league.” Dr. Goebbels concluded by saying: “We must become a nation of martyrs, because we have certain tasks to fulfil in the world.”
