CHILDREN’S COURT

♦ SATURDAY (Before Mr F. F. Reid, S.M., Mrs T. Green, J.P., and Mr W. M. West. J.P.) THEFT OF MONEY A boy aged 12 pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing 6s in money, and his brother, aged 13, to receiving Is 3d, knowing it to have been stolen. Chief-Detective W. H. Dunlop said that the younger boy had been walking past a tobacconist’s shop in St. Albans and looking in through the door noticed that the till was open and that no one was there. He went in and stole three florins, out of which he later gave his brother Is 3d. Mr J. K. Moloney, who appeared for the boys, said that they were rather uncontrollable. One had been before the court before, but he thought that this time chastisement would be a better punishment than putting them under the care of the Child Welfare Officer. After the case had been further considered his suggestion that it be adjourned to allow a parish priest to take the boys in hand was adopted. The charges were adjourned for three months. TRAFFIC OFFENCES Two boys were each convicted and dischai’ged for riding motor-cycles when they did not hold licenses. Two boys were charged with riding bicycles at night without lights. Each was fined 2s 6d.
