BOOKINGS FOR OVERSEAS
MORE TRAVELLERS FROM NEW ZEALAND Bookings by .New Zealand travellers for England and the Continent are, on the whole, better than they were last year, according to those associated with the tourist industry in ..Christchurch, who were seen by a representative of "The Press" on Saturday 'morning, That the bookings were heavier was taken .to indicate that money was freer now than it has been for Some time. ' Although .a straight-out comparison could not be' With last year, said ,an official of the - ynion Steam Ship Company, because -.of the many persons who went to England for the Silver Jubilee celebrations last year, when these travellers were taken into consideration the number travelling this year.was still larger than last year. The last few days were said to have been very busy. One of the mdst popular classes was the tourist class, and many'Of the bookings were for (! th© route by way of Canada or America. Another company which caters lor .overseas, tourists said that bookings for passages to Europe was very heavy, ( The accommodation which was being applied for was also of a better class than that by which travellers , went last year, which was a good sign for travelling was a. luxury. .This company had also found that many travel-
lers were preferring to go by the American route. _ A slight improvement in the number of New Zealanders going overseas- had. been notified by Messrs Kinsey and Company, Ltd,, , and the number travelling was considered to'be good. .
