BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL

CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL

The Christchurch Boys’ High School Christmas fair, held to raise funds towards a gymnasium and an asembly hall for the school at Riccarton, was continued on' Saturday afternoon and evening. The fair, which was held at Canterbury University College, again included stalls and side-shows, the features of the afternoon being the presence of Father Christmas, which seemed to cause considerable amusement, and the holding of a baby show, for which there were over 50 entrants. The organisers of this contest were Mesdames S. Gibson, E. C. Taylor, A. J. Cade, and J. Munt. Sister Margaret Jones, formerly of St. Helens Hospital, was the judge, prizes being awarded as follows: —Boys under six months of age: Baby Coates 1, Baby Brosnahan 2. Girls under six months; Baby Kerridge 1. Boys under 12 months: Baby Alexander 1, Baby Sisson 2. Girls under 12 months; Baby Sawtell 1, Baby Pitcher 2. Girls over 12 months: Fay Christenson 1. Boys over 12 months: John Wheeland 1, Lex Moulin 3.

Mrs Ket Johnston presented the prizes, which were given by Dr. A. J. Orchard, Mrs E. Jones, Messrs A. W. Spence, R. R. Parnham, Mr and Mrs S. Gibson, Mrs E. C. Taylor, and Mr S. Hewitt.

A competition for a cake in connexion with the baby show was won by Mrs Mitchell (Bristol street). Stallholders and organisers included Mesdames A. Hobbs, E. H. Swallow, J. Munt, Mrs S. Gibson, Miss D. Stuart, Messrs J. Munt, A, J. Cade, C. T. Dowsell, and R. J, Harrison. ■ In the early evening music, was provided by the school band, under the leadership of Captain C, H, Hoskin. A dance was held in the Students’ Association building, having been arranged by the tea-rooms committee.
