COLONIAL DEBENTURE AND LOAN INTEREST

ABOLITION OF ABSENTEE TAX URGED LONDON, December 12. Mr Harold D. Brown, chairman of the New Zealand Loan and 'Mercantile Agency Company, urged at the annual meeting of the company the abolition of the absentee tax on debenture and loan interest payable by those not residing in Australia and New Zealand. These countries, he said, would still require large amounts of outside capital for development, and the abolition of the absentee tax would encourage investors here to supply it. All the Dominion Government and municipal loans issued in London were exempt from taxation.
