MESSIAH-ELIJAH CONCERT
COMBINED CHOIRS AT CIVIC For the first time, the two principal mixed choirs of Christchurch. the Royal Musical Society, and the Har- ' ' mcnic Society, will combine in a great Christmas concert, comprising selections from the popular oratorios. "The Messiah" and "Elijah." The concert will be held in the Civic Theatre on Thursday night, and it is stated that there will be 200 performers. The conducting will be done by Messrs A. . G. Thompson and Victor Peters, and the soloists will be Mrs D. A. Lawsen (soprano), Miss Nellie Lowe i contralto), Mr T. E. West (tenor), and :iie Rev. L. A. North (bass). The accompanists will be Mrs J. E. Russell and Miss Blanche Atkinson (piano*. Mr W. Melville La wry (organ), and a string orchestra conducted by Mr Arthur Gordon. The occasion is notable in that it is the seventy-fifth arm<versary of the Royal Musical Society and the concert should be a fitting tribute to the work of its founder- k The box plan is at Chas.
