M'CREADY BEATS DUALA (PBE3B ASSOCIATIOK TELEGSAM.) ' AUCKLAND, December 9. A wrestling match between Earl McCready, of Canada, and "Tiger" Duala, of India, was won by McCreday by two falls to one, the bout ending in the fifth round. The contost was announced as being for the heavy-weight championship of the British Empire, a title which the Canadian had claimed since his arrival in New Zealand some months ago, and which he "had retained during his stay here.
In the third round, Mc.Cready was awarded a penalty fall when the Indian applied and sustained strangleholds after being twice warned by the referee. Duala obtained a fall in the fourth round with a slam and a body press, picking his opponent up after jumping on his back and head a couple of times. Lively exchanges followed in the fifth round before McCready lifted the Indian for a slam and body press.
When Mr C. Pollard raised McCready's hand in token of victory at the end of the fifth round, Duala rushed to the Canadian's corner, and commenced grappling again. The referee and seconds of the two men parted them before a sergeant of police, who had climbed into the ring found it necessary to intervene. Duala afterwards stated through an interpreter that he did not realise that a penally fall had been given against him in the third round. He also added that he had taken the ring in spite of indisposition. There was ,a large attendance, the Town Hall being almost full. Before the start of the main bout, a telegram was received from "Lofty" Blomfield, issuing a challenge to the winner. BLOMFIELD BEATS JAGET SINGH (I?S»3S A.HHOCIA.TIOH TBL»OEAU.) WELLINGTON, December 9. After a surprise fall against him in the third round of a wrestling match to-night, Lofty Blomfield opened the next round in sensational style by dumping his opponent, Jaget Singh, over the ropes. Singh did not return, and the match, which while it lasted was fast and interesting, was awarded to Blomfield. •
