1 ' w ♦ GOtF CLUB The annual meeting of the Kaikoura Golf Club was held in the public library reading room, Kaikoura, with Mr J. McL. Reid presiding. The annual report stated that matches, home and away, had been played against the Parnassus, Amurl* Cheviot, and South Marlborough Clubs, and a mixed tournament had been held on the King's birthday. The Westenra Cup tournament had been played on the Kaikoura course this year, and the Kaikoura Club had won the teams' match, ~ The cowse had been improved greatly, and .with the mowing of fairways and the construction of several sand bunkers, the club could provide facilities unequalled in North Canterbury. The membership at the end of last season was 58, and now stood at 106 active. ai* honorary, and two country members. The standard of play had improved greatly, and many players had reduced their handicaps. It was recommended that in inter-dub matches the visiting players should be entertained by the Kaikoura players without calling upon the club funds. Teape; junior championship, C. Trewin; Withers Cup, F, B. Sabiston; Mogridge Memorial Cup, A. S. Robinson; president's trophy, W. D. Sabiston; Werren Cup,. R. Grant; Bishop Cup, R. A recommendation was made that women be drawr in fours or pairs, but that, fours mus' be played on Saturday afternoon. Reference to the excellent services given to the club by the retiring president, Mr E, W. Flower, was made by the president, who mentioned the years of faithful service given by Mi Flower and the club's deep regret thahe would be leaving the district. Mr E. W. A special general'meeting of the Kaikoura Golf Club wag held-, befpre the annual meeting, with Mr E. W, Flower, president, in the chair, to consider increasing the subscriptions. Although the balance-sheet showed a profit off the last year's working this did not represent actuaL prqfit, as the < balance-sheet was based on capital exi penditure, said the chairman. Tribute to Secretary , ' A tribute to the splendid services to i the Kaikoura Golf Club of the secretary, Mr W. B, Sabiston, was paid at the annual meeting of the club by the president, Mr J."McL. Reid, and the retiring' president, Mr E. W,. Flower. . The speakers said .that, by his, thorough grasp of detail and hi? knowledge oZ accountancy the secretary had succeeded in' placing the club on a sound footing, and the club- was deeply indebted to Mr Sabiston .for his voluntary and willing service. Cup Presented A handsome silver cup, presented to the Kaikoura Gojf Club by m P, B.
