OBITUARY
! Mil JOHN MARSHALL ! Mi- John Marshall, of Styx, whose death occurred recently at the age of 76, was born in Devonshire, England, and came to New Zealand with his parents in the ship Accrington, at the age of four, landing at Lyttelton in September, 1863. After staying four yqars in Christchurch, his parents took up land at Cust, where he lived for more than 20 years, before going to Styx. For many years he was organist at the Belfast Methodist Church, and also one of the trustees of the Belfast Church and parsonage. He is survived by three bothers, the Rev. W. Marshall, Tinwald, Mr R. ; DUNEDIN, November 14. ! Tin' death occurred yesterday of Mr William Mills, at the age of 84 years. jMr Mills, who was a native of ScotHand, came to Dunedin with his parjents in 1059. His father owned a gun:.smith's business in Stafford street, and Mr Mills, jun., took charge of it after his father's death, retaining the ownership until recently. He was present at. the opening of the Otago Boys' High ; School on August 3, 13G3, and he was ia pupil of the school in 1863 and 1864. IHe was a prominent footballer and was one of the earliest members of the Dunedin Rugby Football Club. He was a member of the first Otago representative team, captained by W. Gordon Dixon, which toured New Zealand in 1877. He represented his ' province against Canterbury in 1878, ; 1879, 11180, 1881, 1883. and 1884; against I
; Wellington in 15570, 1883, and 1885; and I against Auckland in 1883. I 'in his early years Mr Mills took an i active interest in all branches of ama- j teur athletics, and hi: was particularly | i fond of the sport of rifle shooting. Until recently he took part every year in j the annual match between u team ot old bovs of the High School and a team of pupils, lie was also a member of the Kaituna Bowling Club.
