HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY'S COMPETITION

A rose competition held last evening by the Canterbury Horticultural Society was won by Mr J. M. McGregor with a fine bloom, "Annie L. Crette." The judge was Mr J. Poulsen, and a voting contest showed that 17 members judged the competition in accordance with the judge's decision. An address on roses was given by Mr Pouisen, who gave advice to members on growing for exhibition purposes. Mr J. A. McPherson, curator of the public gardens, spoke on peonies.
