The remit from Canterbury asked that the inter-island eightoar races should be abandoned. Several delegates asked the reason for the withdrawal of the remit, and when it was stated that none had, as yet, been offered, suggested that the reason should be sought. Mr J. B. The Union Club advised that at its annual meeting it had been unanimously decided to protest against the distance of the four-oar races in the "head-of-the-river" contest being increased from half a mile to one mile; and the club's delegates had been instructed to move that the motion to increase the distance be rescinded.
