MOTH AEROPLANE OVERTURNS

SHEEP STRUCK WHILE TAKING OFF OCCUPANTS NOT INJURED Slight structural damage was caused to one of the Canterbury Aero Club's Moth machines, AK--AAH, when it overturned through striking a sheep while taking off at Wigram aerodrome shortly after noon yesterday. The machine was piloted by Mr C. W. Evans, a pupil member of the club, who had as passenger Mr S; A. Gibbons, pilot instructor to the club. Neither occupant was injured although Mr Gibbons received a knock on the The pilot was unable to see the animal which caused the mishap, as it was in the pilot's "blind spot. The machine had not reached flying speed, but turned over on its nose. The occupants, who were strapped into their seats, were able to get out without difficulty.

The propeller of the machine was smashed, the upper starboard wing was slightly damaged, and two ©f the bottom longerons, which form the framework of the fuselage, were broken. The club's ground engineer has not yet investigated the damage fully but it is not expected that the repairs will be costly or that theywill take very long.
