REDUCTION OF FEES SOUGHT

ACTION BY CANTERBURY

CENTRE . % A reduction from 3s 6d to 2s 6d in the registration fees of riders, is Cd to be retained by the centres, and Is to be forwarded 'to the association, is being sought by the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association. The centre agreed last evening to instruct its delegate to take the necessary steps to give notice of motion asking for the reduction immediately. J. L. Richards notified the centre that he wished to make an attempt to set a New Zealand unpaced 25-mile road record for amateurs over an out and back course from Papanui to Woodend. The date suggested was August 10. Tentative arrangements for checking the distance were made. The New Zealand Association asked the centre's opinion on the following notice of motion, which was to come before the association at its next meeting, on August 1: "That i-ule 63 of the constitution should be amended, so as to permit the use of free wheels and variable gears in road races at the option of centres." The centre's opinion was that rule 63 should not be altered, since it governed track racing; but it considered that a clause should be included in the special rules governing road racing saying that free wheels and vari- j able geara might be used.
