WINTER SHOW
GOOD DISPLAY AT WAIM ATE. RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED (3?JtCUI- 70 THE PHT^S.) V/AIMATE, June 23. The 1935 exhibition of the Waimatc Winter and Poultry Show Association, which opened at the Premier Garage, High street, yesterday, attracted probably the best display ever seen in the district. The entries exceed in number those received last year by about 50. fanciers from Christchurch, Ashburton, Timaru, Southburn, Pareora, Morven, Oamarti, Diptcn, and Dunedin being represented, and in conformity with the experience of other centres the upward trend of quality has been fully maintained in each of the open, utility, and fancy strains. An outstanding feature at the show is the exhibition display of the newlyformed Waimate Horticultural Society, whose display at the recent National Show at Dunedin attracted favourable notice. All the exhibits in the display were grown either in the gardens of members or intending members of the society or in the borough domains, and the layout, which was carried out by the borough gardener (Mr A. White) is excellent. In the nine South Island championship classes in the feathered sections the show has drawn excellent competition excepting amongst the pigeons, where variety is lacking.
