CHOIRMASTER RETIRES

PRESENTATION AT ST. ANDREW'S Mr John McLean, who has been choirmaster at, St. Andrew's Presbyterian church for the last 11 years, and who has retired, was met by a large gathering of members of the congregation in the church schoolroom on Wednesday evening. The minister, the Rev. J. Lawson Robinson, who presided, referred to Mr McLean's untiring work in the interests of church music, and stated that he had brought the choir up to a high standard. He had been associated with choral work for a great many years, and had decided that the time had come to enjoy a rest from active service. His many friends had gathered to wish him lon 15 life and happiness, and to pay a tribute to a man who had most ably guided St. Andrew's choir for n long period. Mr R. E. Lake, organist, said that co-operation with Mr McLean had meant many enjoyable hours spent in the church, both at weekly practices and at Sunday services. As conductor and choirmaster he would be greatly missed. Mr McLean was presented with a wallet of notes, and in reply expressed keen regret at leaving the choir. He felt, however, that the time had come to retire, and he was looking forward to the rest from active choir work.
