SWIMMING BATH FOR HAREWOOD
♦ MEETING OF RESIDENTS The proposed building of a swimming bath for Harewood was discussed at a public meeting of residents of the district last evening. Mr G. Shipley presided. ?: ere was no question of the advisability of the proposed bath or the sympathy of the reside , stated several of those present; finance was thj only stumbling-block. The estimated cost was £SOO (shingle and excavation excepted) The trustees of the surplus funds from thr Harewoor 5 School jubilee, who had instruction!? that the funds wer to be devoted to the bath, reported that they had acquired an option on a quarter an acre shingle site to expire on June 30. Promises from residents oi about £2O had been received This wi the jubilee surplus, was enough f - the purchase of the site In their opinion, however, the scheme should no be startec until at least one half of V- equir •. £SOC was in sight /arious means of raising the £SOO and the advisabil.ty of purchasing the site which was " e most fav irable were discussed, an,, it was anally decided to obtain the site and to send a deputation to tne Walmairi County Council to discuss raising a loan for tho bath and to get,the ratepayers in the district to sign a petition in favour of a special rate to meet the in'.err t and sinking fund. It was stated that the site had been viewed anr' ,pprovea by the county health inspector, who har* also app; dof the use of water-race water A bath; committ to hold office for one year was appointed as follows:Messrs A. E. Thornton, R. Harris, G. Billson, W. F. K-'Arthur, G. Shipley, A. Dixon, and D. Jesson.
