ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY
1 FIRST CONCERT NEXT WEDNESDAY The Christchurch Orchestral Society's first concert of the 1935 season will be held in the Radiant Hall on Wednesday next, when an attractive programme that caters for all tastes will be presented. Tine full orchestra of (SO players, under the eonductorship of Mr Ernest Jamieson, has been considerably strengthened by many leading professionals, and the playing will be of an exceptionally high standard. The programme will include "Concert March," "Through Night and Fog" (Urbach), Fifth Symphony (Tschaikowskv). Fourth Symphony (Mendelssohn t; overture, "Orpheus m the Underworld" (Offenbach); Finlandia (Sibelius); Overture to Mignon (Thomas), Pizziato from "Sylvia" Delibes), Serenade (Widow). Concert Valse, "Artist's Life" (Strauss). Ballet Egyptien (I.uigini), Hungarian Dance No. 5 (Brahms). The-Concerto in Aj (Maurer) for four violins and piano will be played by pupil?!* of Mr Ar- ' thur Gordon. Mr J. Tcnnant is the vocalist, the accompanist being Miss Bessie Pollard. Box plans will open at the D.I.C. on Monday.
