NEW ZEALANDERS ABROAD

- PERSONAL NOTES FROM j LONDON (From Our Own Correspondent—By Air Mail.) LONDON, April 20Mr E. C. Cutten is travelling by the Baradine on his way to New Zealand, where h<* expects to spend about six months. Mr Cutten has every reason to be satisfied with the result of his patented engineering invention. He will return to England for business reasons. Mr Aristide Fastier who arrived by the Hobsou s Bay recently, is hoping to obtain engagements as an organist. He intends to study at the Royal College, and later with Marcel Dupre in Paris. Dr. Merton Hodge has written another play, called "The Island," which Miss Auriol J».ee intends to direct in the autumn, and she has bought the option on the producing rights of the play herself. The story is written round a colony of army people, stationed on an island coast defence off the coast of the British Isles. In advance of "The Island," Dr. Hodge's second play, "Griei Goes Over," is about to be put into rehearsal. The cast has not yet been settled, but it is known that Dame Sybil Thorndike is to take the part of the mother in the play, which is the study of a family living in Kensington. "Grief Goes Over" is described as a very intimate play which needs careful casting. If the play proves successful here Dame Sybil hopes to take it to New York later on. Dr. Lan Gebbie (Christchurch) is taking the Licentiate of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene course in London before taking up ins appointment as medical officer at Singapore. He will leave England on July 19. Dr. P. C. Anderson, M.8., Ch.B., M.R.C.P. (London), F.R.C.S. (Edinburgh) has been to Edinburgh to complete the examinations for a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons. Before leaving for New Zealand in two mnn'hs, Dr. Anderson will visit clinics on the Continent.
