WOMEN'S DIVISION OF FARMERS' UNION
WAIMATE BRANCH The annual meeting of the Waimate branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held in the borough c ancil chambers. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs R. H. White in her loss. The annual report showed a successful year's working, and the financial statement showed a credit balance of £8 2s lOd. The competition for most points in handcraft was won by Miss Bitchener. The specimen bloom competition was won by Mrs J. C. Hay, who also won the decorative competition. Tlk election of officers resulted:— President, Mrs F. J. Meyer (reelected) ; vice-presidents, Mesdames J Alty and A. C. Blakie; secretary. Miss B. Bitchener (re-elected); treasurer, Mre A. White; advisory committee., Mesdames J. C. Hay and C. Faulkner; press correspondent, Mrs G. Cleland; si is table, Mesuames Preece and Morgan; committee, Mesdames F. J. Meyer, J. C. Hay, F. F. Simpson, J. Alty, A. C. Blakie, C. Faulkner, S. Miller. Crowe, T. Barbour, J. Heath, A. White, G. Cleland, Preece, A. Good,' Roy, Morgan, Craighead, and Miss B. Bitchener. At the conclusion of the meeting afternoon tea was served. SWANNANOA BRANCH The annual meeting of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, was held in the Swannanoa Hall recently. Mrs Burgln presided, with Miss Spencer-Bower as secretary. The annual election of officers resulted in Mrs H. Burgin being elected president, Miss Spencer-Bower secretary, and Miss J. Winter assistantsecretary. Vice-presidents were: Mrs Cecil Winter and Mrs F. J. D. Parsons. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Mrs Paget. The competition for the afternoon was a pot of raspberry jam. The placings were: Miss F. Winter 1, Miss J. Winter 2, Miss R, Winter 3. Mrs W. Norris gave a demonstration on basketweaving. Afternoon tea was served. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs Hunt, Mrs M. Harman, and Miss Spencer-Bower. CHORLTON-LITTLE AKALOA BRANCH The annual meeting of the ChorltonLittle Akaloa branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Fanners' Union was held recently. The balancesheet, showing a small credit, was adopted. The president's report showed that for only eight months since the foundation the membership had grown to 27, and five parcels containing knitted garments, clothing, jam, and eggs had been forwarded to the Nurse Maude Association. The following were elected officers:—President, Mrs R, E. Waghorn; vice-presidents, Mesdames Salt, V. Craw, and Miss Mulholland; secretary and treasurer, Mrs D. Waghorn. These, with Mesdames Pawson and C. J. Marshall, will form the committee. Pattern secretary, Mrs Victor
Craw; lending librarian, Miss Mul* holland; honorary auditor, Mr R. Herriot. The president's prizes for most points were won by Mrs R, C. Waghorn 1, Mrs D. Waghorn 2. The hostesses for the afternoon were Misses Waghorn and Mulholland. i WESTFIELD BRANCH The annual meeting of the Westerfield branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held in the Rifle Club rooms. Mrs H. Dillon presided. The president's i report showed another year of pro-' gress. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance, and that Miss M. Lowry was first for most points in competitions during the year, and the second prize was won by Mrs W. J. Lowry. The following officers were elected:— President, Mrs D. S. Shaw; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames T. Allen, H. Dillon, and G. Watson; secretary, Mrs R. J. Biddick; treasurer, Mrs A. Lamb; delegates to executive, Mesdames D. Shaw, J. Barton, and H. .Dillon; advisory board, Miss Dillon, Mrs Watson, and Mrs Allen; committee, all financial members; (sales table, Mrs J. Langdon, assisted by Miss L. Stone, Mrs I. Feckney, and Miss M. Lowry. The hostesses were Miss Sheate, Mrs L. Thomas, and Miss L. Stone. GOVERNOR'S BAY-ALLANDALE BRANCH The first annual meeting of the Governor's Bay-Allandale branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers Union was held in St. Cuthbert's vicarage on April 11. The president, Mrs R, Allan, wag in the chair. Mrs Allan, who launched the branch less than a year ago, was reelected president. There was a competition for the best home-made apricot jam, Mrs H. Crow and Mrs Greig being the winners. MOTUKARARA BRANCH Mrs L. Coop presided at the fifth annual meeting of the Motukarara branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union. Before the business session began, a motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mrs E. Goodwin. The secretary read a report of the year's work, and i presented the balance-sheet, which showed a credit balance of, £ll 16s. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the secretary (Miss Thompson) for her work during the year. Officers elected were:—President, Mrs L. Coop (re-elected); vice-presidents, Miss M. Anderson, Mrs T, Simmons; secretary, Miss E. Thompson; assist-ant-secretary, Miss Joan Templeton; treasurer. Mrs T. Streeter; committee, Mesdames J. Miller, F, Coop, G, Templetoa. H. A. Nutt, W. G. Witte. C. E. Gray, A H. Wheeler, A, A. Anderson, Misses J. Gebbie and W. WitheU: delegates to Bush Nurses and Housekeepers' Auxiliary, Mesdames T. Streeter and G. Templeton; delegates to provincial executive. Mrs L. Coop, Misses E. Thompson and M. Anderson; press* reporter, Mir»s Joan Templeton; competitions superintendent* Mrs T. Simmons; auditor, Mr C. F. Bowley. Three new members were elected.
Competitions resulted:—Yeast buns. Miss M. Anderson 1, Mrs V. Robinson 2; flowers. Mrs V. Robinson 1, Mrs A. A. Anderson 2. Next month's com' petition will be for a pot of raspberry jam and for pikelets. At the conclusion of the meeting, members were the guests of the Farmers' Union. The Allandale-Governor's Bay branch of the division presented a play, entitled "The Weather," and items were given by Mrs W. G. Witte, Miss Lily Robertson, and Mr Keith Derry. Mr G. C. Warren, president of the North Canterbury executive of the Farmers* Union, spoke of the aims and objects of the union, and the programme concluded with dancing: and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." CLANDEBOYE BRANCH The annual meeting of the Clandeboye branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held recently. The balance-sheet, showing a credit, was adopted. The election of officers resulted:—President Miss M. E. Livesey; vice-presi-dent, Mrs H. T. Dunn; treasurer. Miss A. T. Somerville; secretary, Mrs G. H. Mulligan; librarian, Miss M. Clayton; housekeeper and bush nurse advisory members, Mrs J. Henderson and Mrs E. Dobson: committee, Mesdames G. A. Bolderston, J. Drake, W. Adair, H. C. Livesey, and Miss E. Goodson Prizes for most points gained in competitions for the year were presented to Miss E> Goodson 1. Miss M. E. Livesey 2- most points in cooking, Mrs W. Adair. A musical competition arranged by Miss M. Clayton was won by Mrs H. T. Dunn and Mrs J. Drake (equal). Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs- and Miss Livesey. WOODEND-WAIKUKU BRANCH The annual meeting of the WoodendWaikuku branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was presided over by Mrs H. Ellen. It was decided that ss, with, a post office savings bank book, be presented to Dorothy Anne Heath, the infant daughter of a member. The prizes won at the flower show in February were presented. The date of King George's silyeu jubilee, May 6. was decided upon for the annual dance, which this year will be a carnival ball. A letter was read from the secretary of the central executive, Miss Connor, about the formation of a junior branch. After some discussion, it was decided that such a branch be formed, and Miss Mavis Moody %vas elected president. Mrs EUcn presented the annual report, which was adopted. It showed the branch to be in a satisfactory position. Mrs P. Robinson then presented the financial report, which showed & credit. The election of officer* resulted:— President (pro tens). Mrs H. Ellen; vice*presldents, Mn W, Moody, Mrs H. ftobaon; secretary and treasurer, Mrs P. Robinson; assistant secretary, Mrs P. Maddison; advisory member, Mrs F. McQuillan; committee, Mesdames H. Little. F„ Browne, A. Petrie. and Miss Rjnaldi. Mrs Ellen and Mrs Hardy were appointed delegates to the provincial 'executive. Afternoon tea was served by the president
