Mr Goodman stated his pleasure at the way in which the game was progressing on the West Coast, where competition matches had been successfully reestablished at Greyrnouth and Hokitilca. He also mentioned the visit of the Australian hockey team to New Zealand. The team had been one of the strongest yet sent here frc... Austral "i, as it had shown from the fact that it had drawn a match with Auckland, the holder of the New Zealand hockey shield. There had been criticism of the Australian visit, but it was not warranted in the light of the benefit to hockey received through the tour.

The annual report stated that four challenge matches had been played for the Nordon Cup, which was not taken aw-y from the holder, Hastings. The junior challenge cup was retained by Auckland, which beat Taranaki by 4 goals to 0. Indian Team's Visit Referring to the coming visit of an Indian hockey team, the report stated: "The Indian team which so successfully toured New Zealand in 1926 was representative only of the Indian Army, but the team to tour New Zealand in 1935 is representative of the whole of India, and contains a number of players who were members of the Indian team which successfully retained the title of world's championship at the last Olympic Games. "In view of the outstanding calibre of this visiting team and the lengthy travelling involved, we have had to accept heavy financial responsibilities in arranging the tour; but the All Indian team will be such en attraction that the public will respond in great number;;. We confidently expect that the tour will be a wonderful success in every respect. "Hockey in this Dominion should receive a great stimulus, as well as a big improvement in the standard of play. The visiting Indian team is due to arrive at Wellington on Monday, May 13, and after touring New Zealand for 10£ weeks is to leave from Auckland on Friday, July 26. VISITING TEAMS

"LAVISH ENTERTAINMENT MOT DESIRABLE" At ttie annual meeting of the New Zealand Hockey Association, held last night, the president, Mr H. S. J. Goodman, said that he considered that the lavish entertainment of visiting hockey teams was undesirable. It was noticeable, he said, that the Australian team suffered its worst defeats at the end of its tour, when it was fatigued with sight-seeing excursions and with attending dinners. It was felt at the meeting that this style of entertaining was unfair to touring players. There was no necessity for each town to give a dinner and dance for visiting teams. "It's not hospitality; it's boredom," remarked one delegate. It was decided that the association should be notified about this matter, and a warning given so that the AH Indian hockey team, which, is to visit the Dominion shortly, will not have to undergo a tiring round of functions outside of their itinerary.
