METHVEN T.C.

TO-MORROW'S .PROGRAMME The Methven Trotting Club's meetings are amongst the most popular fixlures in New Zealand, and the club is one of the most progressive. It is also one of the youngest clubs, and when first formed'it" look on a financial responsibility that few clubs would have been optimistic enough 1o incur. The president, Mr S. G. Holmes, and other members, however, took the risk in a district that is regarded as the home of trotters and light harness sportsmen, and while keeping the stakes up to a high standard, it also managed to reduce the liabilities that had been taken over. The Methven Club will hold its next fixture to-morrow, and with good acceptances and horses of even class the racing promises to be of a high standard. The track is reported to be in good order. The programme is as follows: — LYNIMIIUt.ST HANDICAP, of SO sovs. Unhoppled trotters, oinili <l!)seB class. Ono inilo and a half. The majority figure on the limit of the handicap, and the best performed of these is Discord, whose form at the recent Ashburton meeting showed her to be above the average. She ran second to Airflow in the Allen ton Handicap in 3min 32sec. and now on 3min 49sec she has time in her favour. Bittersweet has not been altogether reliable, and next 1o Discord the public may prefer Ann Parrish and Princess Guy. HIGH HANK HANDICAP, of 80 stivs. 3min -ISscc class. Ono mile and « half. Lady Hannah is a filly above the average, her form at the Timaru meeting being impressive, and Royal Palm showed promise at the Cheviot meeting. Crearn Harvester is also useful and the favourites may be Lady Hannah, Cream Harvester, and Royal Palm. PRESIDENT'S HANDICAP, of Kit) sovs. •linin 'l,'isec class. Two miles. The big race of the day is the President's Handicap, and the recent running of Graham Direct will probably encourage strong public support. He is set to give away 24 yards, but he is a crack three-year-old and bound to improve. Marie Celeste lost friends by her Addington display and Doliie Derby on the limit is to be preferred. Grace McElwyn and Gamble arc both to be considered on their day. and Tangaltt has only to begin correctly to be in the firing line throughout. The order at the finish rnav be' Graham Direct, Gamble, and Doliie Derby. LAI'IMSTON HANDICAP, of 1 n(j sovs. Oniin :;-!see class, dno mile and a half. Overtures have been made by one of the leading owners in America for the purchase of Peter Pan, but the owner says that Peter Pan will never leave Australia. Peter Pan's fine performance on Wednesday has given rise to comparisons with Phar Lap, but J. Pike, who has ridden both champions, still declares that there has been only one Phar Lap, and considers that had Phar Lap been extended his times might have been world's records.
