MONICA PARK SPEEDWAY
CHARITY MEETING TO-MORROW After to-morrow night speedway patrons will not have another opportunity for many months of enjoying the thrills of dirt track racing, for then the last meeting of the broadsiding season will be held at Monica Park. Although the first season under the direction of Stadium Sports, Ltd., has comprised only eight meetings, including the final one to-morrow night, the management has set aside the last night for two deserving charities. All speedway patrons will have a special interest in one, the Riders' Benevolent Fund, and every citizen has sympathy for the other —the relief of distress in Christchurch. The proceeds of the last meeting will be equally divided between these two causes. The Monica Park trustees have given the use of the stadium free for the night, and as the speedway officials and staff are working without remuneration, patrons may be assured that the maximum benefit will be passed on from the charity meeting. The chief events on the programme will be the Gold Helmet and the Gold Sash, which is awarded for the local riders' three-lap record. As Jack Hobson has departed for Wembley, there are several riders whose chances seem very even, and some good finishes may be expected. The riders in the Gold Helmet will be Roscoe and Neil Rhodes, and three will attempt the three-lap record for the Gold Sash —Forbes, Dixon, and S. Rhodes. Special prices are advertised for the charity meeting, for which season passes will not be available.
