SUPREME COURT

WEDNESDAY (Before his Honour Mr Justice Johnston.) WIDOW'S CLAIM Emma Jane Patterson, widow, of Christchurch, sought an increased allowance from the estate of her husband, Francis Henry Patterson, a cycle dealer, of Papanui, who died on August 6, 1934. His Honour made an order granting the applicant an income of £2 10s a week during her life, the order to be dated from the day of the testator's death.

Mr Champion stated that the estate had been sworn for death duty at £1074, but after payment of debts and other expenses it had been reduced to £769. Mr E. C. Champion appeared for the plaintiff and Mr A. B. Hobbs for the trustee. An order was made for the costs of all parties to be paid out of the estate.

Edward Joseph Sisson, charged with being in a state of intoxication whilst in charge of a motor-truck, pleaded guilty, and was fined £lO and ordered to pay costs, and on a charge of driving a motor-truck without holding a driver's license he was fined 10s and ordered to pay costs. Robert Leggitt Karaitiana, on a charge of being intoxicated while m charge of a motor-car, was fined £3 and ordered to pay costs, and his license was suspended for three months. On charges of driving motor-vehicles at a dangerous speed, L. J. Hobson was fined £2 and ordered to pay costs, and L. Fisher and J. G. Duncan were each fined £1 and ordered to pay costs. Charged with cutting a corner, A. Fussell was fined 10s and ordered to pav costs. , , On a charge of riding a motor-cycle at night without lights, C. Harland was fined 10s and ordered to pay costs. C. G. Valk. charged with riding a motor-cycle without a license, was fined 10s and ordered to pay costs. . On charges of cycling at night without lights, R. Wyatt was fined 10s and ordered to pay costs, and E. H. Moore and A. H. C. Vincent were each fined 5s and ordered to pay costs.
