SUMNER DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL
♦ .MEETING OF COMMITTEE Mr L. H. Fee, chairman, presided ©vex the monthly meeting of the committee of the Sumner District High School. Present: Mesdames Tombs and Gale, and Messrs Lipscombe, •J. Brown, R. C. N. Hill, and H. M. Stevens, headmaster. Correspondence was received from the Education Board stating that it was prepared to consider a grant for the tar sealing of the grounds about the buildings if the committee could raise funds for the purpose. It was decided to endeavour to find about £l6 for the purpose. The headmaster emphasised the need for an electric radio gramophone in the interests of the children's education. Two loud-speakers would be needed, and the cost would be about £4O. It was decided to deal ■with the matter at the next meeting. It was decided to call for applications lor the position of caretaker, at a salary of £BO a year, the applications to be sent to, and dealt with, by the secretary and headmaster. It was stated that the work of the dental committee was being satisfactorily done by Mrs Rutherford. A report on the school picnic at Little River showed that it had been well attended and that general satisfaction had been expressed with the arrangements. The secretary of the Old Scholars' Association of the Sumner District High School, 'Miss U. Jensen, wrote stating that the tenth anniversary of the secondary department would take place this year, and the association desired to know if the committee was prepared to participate in the celebrations if any were to be held. It was decided to meet the committee of the association in conference.
