CONFERENCE OF BUILDERS

*- OPENING AT ROTORUA (rRESS ASSOCIATION TELEORAM.) ROTORUA, February 20. The thirty-fifth annual conference of the New Zealand Federation of Builders and Contractors opened at Rotorua to-day. Delegates are attending from all parts of the Dominion. In his presidential address, Mr Walter Ellis (Dunedin) said that a marked improvement had taken place in the building trade during the last year, partly because of the Government subsidy scheme and partly because of the general process of recovery. The prospects were much more encouraging, but it would be unwise to be over-optimistic. A reduction in taxation must precede any real recovery.
