N.Z. SOCIETY OF ACCOUNTANTS

ANNUAL MEETING ■mess ASSOCIATION TKLEGKAM.) AUCKLAND, February 20. In moving the adoption of the annual report, the president of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, Mr H. Valentine, stated at the annual meeting that during the year the membership of the society had increased to 2319, or by 415 members, and was now higher than at any previous time. That .nearly 200 students were now qualifying annually for admission to the society was sufficient answer to the criticism that by setting an unduly high standard in its examinations the society was endeavouring to create a clo~e corporation. It was reported that five of the six retiring district members of the council had been re-elected unopposed. These were: Hawke's Bay, Mr M. S. Spence; Wellington, Mr S. E. Lambert; Canterbury. Mr W. A. Smith; Otago. Mr J. W. Smeaton; Southland, Mr J. B. Reid. The election in the Auckland district had resulted in the return of Mr J. M. Elliffe.
