WESTERN AUSTRALIAN MINING DISPUTE

SETTLEMENT REACHED PERTH, February 18. The Western Australian goldmining companies have accepted the proposals of the Ministry for Mines for a settlement of the dispute which caused the mines to be idle for six weeks. Work will be resumed immediately. Within six weeks the miners will decide by ballot whether they favour a fortnight with 40 hours one week and 48 the next, or a 44-hour week.

The miners at a mass meeting decided in favour of a resumption on this basis.

At Kalgoorlie the principal mines of the Golden Mile have reopened, after six weeks' inactivity.
