—♦—jfc. "GRAND CANARY" "Grand Canary," the screen version of A. J. Cronin's best-selling novel, with Warner Baxter in the leading role, will commence at the Joyland Theatre, New Brighton, to-day. In this picture Baxter has the strongest dramatic and romantic role in his career, and he is ably supported by Madge Evans in the feminine lead. The film is a love drama with a strong underlying theme, Baxter taking the part of a doctor who is called a "murderer" by. the world because his new serum has failed and three people have died He determines to go away and lose himself in oblivion, but on board a ship bound for the Canary Islands he meets the beautiful Madge Evans and tails in love with her. When they reach the islands, a devastating plague pf yellow fever threatens the inhabitants and the girl falls a victim to it. However, the doctor fights back the epidemic through the use of his serum, and vindicates himself before the world. Others in the cast are Marl or i e Rambeau.
