SOUTH ISLAND HONEY

BLENDING FOR EXPORT Speaking at a field day of beekeepers at Paerata, Auckland. Mr W. J. Jordan, M.P., expressed his dissatisfaction with the present grading of honey, as some of the South Island honeys which are of value in blending, giving the blend a taste which is peculiar to New Zealand honey and which make it distinctive to our Dominion. are graded low. Mr Jordan expressed the opinion that it would be wise to blend all our honey before export so that there would be but one brand of New Zealand honey on the overseas market. It should be exported in bulk blended ready for packing for sale. The opinion of Mr Jordan is of especial interest to South Island honey producers, as during recent years certain South Island honeys, particularly birch and rata, have been reduced in grade considerably, and it was undoubtedly to these honeys that Mr Jordan referred. Mr Jordan is well known as an authority on beekeeping, honey production, and blending, having been engaged in the industry before being elected to Parliament. He will be remembered by the returned soldiers as the instructor on beekeeping in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in France and at Sling Camp after the armistice.
