REGULATING RUBBER OUTPUT
SCHEME WORKING WELL SO FAR (BRITISH OFFICIAL WIBELJSSS.) (Received January 31, 7.5 p.m.) RUGBY, January 30. Referring in the House of Commons to a communique of the International Rubber Regulation Committee showing permissible imports for the last seven months of 1934 at nearly 499,000 tons, and actual exports of more than 488,000 tons, the Colonial Secretary (Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister) said the figures showed that the scheme had so far worked, very satisfactorily. Regarding the steps to be taken under the restriction scheme to control production by natives in the Dutch East Indies, and their effectiveness in the event of a substantial rise in the price of rubber, he said he understood that in some districts individual restriction was being introduced and in others control was by means of an export duty. He had every confidence in the ability of the Netherlands Government to secure effective control in any circumstances likely to arise;
