MR ROOSEVELT'S BIRTHDAY
CELEBRATIONS ALL OVER COUNTRY PROCEEDS FOR THE SICK (Received January 31, 11.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, January 30. Mr Roosevelt's fifty-third birthday was celebrated to-day by 7000 balls throughout the country, the proceeds of which, as last year, will be devoted to the alleviation of suffering from infantile paralysis. he Byrd expedition also took part in the festivities, holding a dance exhibition and a musical programme. Special rations were served at Little America, where the men tuned in to the nation-wide birthday ball broadcast. Mr Roosevelt spoke briefly, thanking the people for their help in the work for paralysis sufferers.
