HEATHCOTE NEWS
BURGESSES' ASSOCIATION j The Heathcote Burgesses' Association held its monthly meeting in the school room, Mr F. A, Silcock (the president) presiding over a good attendance. It was decided strongly to protest against the proposed alteration of the boundary between the Mount Pleasant and Heathcote ridings. The secretary was instructed to write to the Heathcote County Council drawing its attention to the drain leading from the septic tank to the river. The sub-committee appointed to enquire about better postal facilities in Heathcote reported having interviewed the Chief Postmaster in Christchurch, who had said that after considering the question he would give his decision by letter. It was stated that the water supply in Heathcote under present arrangements was inadequate in a district where so many of the residents were dependent on their gardens for a living, and it was decided to call a public meeting on February 6, and that the member of the Heathcote riding on the Heathcote County Council be asked to attend. Methodist Sunday School The annual meeting of the Heathcote Methodist Sunday School was held on Wednesday night, the Rev. R. E. Patciiett presiding. The annual report showed that the year had been most successful, and the balance-sheet showed a credit balance. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Superintendent, Mr W. J. Burnell; secretary and treasurer, Mrs Shrimpton; librarian, Miss Ngaire Watkins; pianist, Miss A. Cogle.
