■ * BOWLS Hie Lyttelton Bowling Club will hold championship rink matches on Saturday afternoon. Magistrate's Court Mr H. A. Young, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. For using water for gardens during hours in which such use was prohibited, Stanley Davis (Mr A". W. Smithson) was convicted and ordered to pay court costs, 10s, and solicitor's fee, £1 Is. Mr L. J. Hensley appeared for the Lyttelton Borough Council. At a special sitting of the court, held later in the morning, Henry Gough, aged 66 years, was charged with having, on September 30, indecently assaulted a female. On the application of Detective E. M. Thomas, a remand was granted until to-mor-row morning. Swimming The Lyttelton Amateur Swimming Club will hold a 100-yards championship race and a 50 yards backstroke handicap at Corsair Bay on Saturday afternoon. On Saturday afternoon, at Corsair Bay, the Lyttelton Ladies' Swimming Club .will hold a 50 yards handicap, a 25 yards handicap, and a novelty race. The club will hold its annual beach members luncheon at the bay on Tuesday. A handicap swUteming race, over a distance of one mile, will be held at Diamond Harbour on Sunday afternoon, under the auspices of the Canterbury Swimming Centre. Boy Rescued Fishing from the Side of the women's bathing enclosure at Corsair Bay yesterday afternoon, a small boy, aged about seven years, was so startled When he hooked a fish that he fell in the sea. To add to the excitement his mother, who saw him fall, fainted. A Lyttelton boy, G. Hillier, went in after the child, and in spite of his struggles managed to support him until other assistance arrived. Both

the boy and his mother soon recovered from the. shock. Harbour Light Theatre "This Week of Grace." which Will be screened at the Harbour Light Theatre this afternoon and evening and to-morrow evening, is a merry musical comedy, with Gracie Fields, the English comedienne, at her best. She is ably supported by Frank Pettingell and Henry Kendall. Miss Fields sings some half a dozen popular songs in her own inimitable style, arid the whole production is first-class entertainment. An attractive programme of short subjects wiU be screened. Firemen Rejoin Ship The 15 firemen, members of the crew of the steamer Mamari, who were left at Timaru on Tuesday night, because of their action in walking ashore when the vessel was about to sail, arrived from the south by the first express yesterday, and rejoined the ship at Lyttelton. On arriving at Lyttelton, the men first held a meeting, which lasted about two hours, and they then: went aboard the Mamari.
