KENNEL NOTES

[By CALEB.] [Queries for answer in this column should bo addressed to "Caleb," care "The Press," Cliristchurcli, and to ensure publication on any Saturday must bo received not Inter than the Wednesday preceding.] Two litters of the useful sporting Springer Spaniel have arrived in the kennels of Mr R. O. Johnson, of St. Albans, this week. Patricia Gun, a bitch that has often appeared on the show bench to her owner's advantage, has whelped an even litter of five, two dogs and three bitches, to Mr W. R. M. Irwin's noted field trial performer, Paddy. It is to be hoped that these puppies inherit the keen working qualities of their sire. A second litter by the same dog has also been whelped in Mr Johnson's kennels, the dam of these being his good bitch Tinker. Mrs Stewart 3 T unter, of Christchurch, who has recently taken up breeding Cairn Ter-iers, has sent her bitch Salome of Seeone to be mated to Mrs P. Simon's good stud dog Rosemoyne Rambler. Mrs R. Y. White, of the Beechwood Kennels. Styx, has disposed of a very fine English Setter dog puppy to Mr R. G. Rudd, of Papanui. The sire of the youngster is ch. Rapanui Ranger and the dam Semaphore Jolly Countess,' who, it will be remembered, won the Jamieson Cup and four firsts at the last Chrislchurch show. The puppy will remain in the Beechwood Kennels until he is a little more matured. Mr Rudd is a keen Setter fancier and will be exhibiting his purchase in due course, as well as training him for the field. Canterbury Kennel Club A parade for members of the above club, the first of the season, will be held in Messrs Matson's Horse Bazaar, Cashel street, on Friday evening, February 8. The judges elected are Messrs M. K. McDermott and Mr W. M. Jack, the club's secretary, who will act conjointly. A good classification has been provided, puppy, novice, and open, for each of the following breeds:—Toy dogs, Terriers, sporting, non-sporting, and one open class which is for all breeds. Certificates will be awarded to the first pi : ~i winners in each class. Dominion Setter Club The energetic band that comprises the dominion Setter Club has been granted permission by the New Zealand Kennel Club to hold field trials in Hawke's Bay. These trials, of course, will be for Setters only, and it is hoped to hold the first event about Easter. The judges, Messrs G. A. Dunlop and A. H. Probert, have been approved by the New Zealand Kennel Club, and their qualifications as judges should ensure good support.
