SPORTS FIXTURES FOR TO-DAY

DUKE TO PLAY POLO BOATING CHAMPIONSHIP AT LYTTELTON The chief sporting attractions for to-day will be the Metropolitan Trotting Club's meeting at Addington, at which the Duke of Gloucester will be present, and the polo match in which his Royal Highness will take part, at South Hagley Park. At the same time practically all the regular sports competitions will be advanced a further stage, and the Z class boating championship will be continued at LytteltoTh° polo match at Hagley Park will begin at 4 p.m. The Duke is an experienced player, and it is anticipated that a very large crowd will assemble to watch the game. Senior Cricket The seventh round of the Canterbury Cricket Association's senior competition will be continued as follows: St. Albans (208) v. Sydenham (73 for three), at Hagley Park No. 1; Old Boys (147) v. Lancaster Park (72 for five), at Hagley Park No. 2; Old Collegians (273 for six) v. Riccarton, Hag-, ley Park No. 3; West Christchurch (360) v. East Christchurch, at Lancaster Park. . , The Suburban Cricket Associations competition will be continued as follows:— Sunnyside (123 and 21 for one) v Beckenham (108), at Sunnyside; Marist (270) v. Railway (42 for none), at Woolston Park; Shirley (218) v. Working Men's Club (14 for one), at Shirley. Boating Championship Two races in the Z class boating championship are set down for to-day. Lyttelton is the only crew that has yet had two wins, and needs only one more to secure the championship. If Lyttelton wins the first race to-day, therefore, it will not be necessary to hold the second. Inter-Club Athletics The Canterbury Amateur Athletic Centre will begin the second half of its season to-day, continuing the interclub' competition at Ensor's road. Races and field events will be held as follows, over half of the Canterbury championship programme:—Discus throw, 100 yards women, 220 yards 880 yards, three miles, pole vault, hop, step, and jump, mile walk, 440 yards hurdles, hammer throw, long jump, women. Swimming The final round of the Canterbury Swimming Centre's inter-club grade competitions will be held this afternoon at the Linwood and East Christchurch baths. The draw is as follows: — Linwood Bath—First grade: Christ-church-United v. East Christchurch. Second grade: Christchurch-United A v. Christchurch-United B. Third grade: Linwood v. Beckenham. Fourth grade: Phillipstown v. Somerfield. Fifth grade: Phillipstown v. Somerfield, Linwood v. Sydenham. Women's grade: Linwood v. Christchurch Ladies, East Christchurch v. Phil'ipstown. East Christchurch Bath—First grade: Phillipstown v. Elmwood; second grade: Phillipstown v. East Christchurch B, Elmwood v. East Christchurch A. Third grade: Phillipstown v. East Christchurch B, Elmwood v. East Christchurch A. Fourth grade: St. Albans v. Hornby. Fifth grade: Elmwood v. Hornby. Women's grade: Elmwood A v. Elmwood B. Hornby v. Christchurch-United. Tennis Competitions The interest of lawn tennis players in Christchurch will be directed today to the fortunes of the Canterbury team in Wellington. There will be no senior competition in Christchurch, but play in the other grades will be continued. Hcad-of-the-Rivcr Rowing The head-of-the-rivcr rowing competition will be continued this afternoon on the Avon. Four-oared races will be held for youth, juniors, lightweight maiden, maiden, and senior oarsmen. The first race is timed to start at 2.30 p.m. Matches will be played on most of the city and suburban bowling greens.
