2 Glass Championship WELLINGTON WINS FOURTH RACE Sailed at Lyttelton yesterday in i strong sou'-wester, with a fairly heavj sea, the fourth race for the Z clasi championship was won by Welling ton. The northern boys sailed a gooc race under conditions to their liking They were challenged, however, b: Kaiapoi in the last round, the loca crew finishing a close second. Otag( made a good showing in the firs round, but capsized at the beginning of the second round. Lyttelton now has two wins, Paremata one, and Wellington one. Twc races will be held to-day, unless Lyttelton wins the morning race when a further race will not be necessary, In that event a championship race for Takapunas will be held this after noon. , The Ra«e The start was at 2.55 p.m. on a triangular course, with a fast run before the wind. Christchurch, Otago Paremata, Lyttelton, and Timaru crossed in that order. In trying tc carry their spinnakers, several of the boats narrowly escaped trouble. A the Sticking Point buoy, Otago anc Plimmerton were in the lead, followed by Wellington and Lyttelton. Kaiapoi was last to round. Otagc was in the weather position on the beat to the quarry buoy. Wellington stood out from the shore to where the wind was stronger. She then made a board in to the shore, and splitting tacks in the lee of the land, she weathered Otago. Lytteltor ■went too far in and lost the wind, dropping back to the last position, Wellington rounded the quarry buo: 45 seconds ahead of Otago. Right oft the quarry point, Kaiapoi pul Paremata and Plimmerton about anc rounded ahead of them. In the lead for the pier buoy the position wa much the same. Otago Capsizes Otago was getting away on a fas run when the boat capsized. Jus afterwards the Paremata boat wen right over on its beam ends but the smart action of the boys in climbing out on the weather side and rightinj the boat earned a round of applaust from the onlookers. A few minutes later Paremata agair caused excitement when a big see struck the boat and threw the skipper J. Coleman, overboard. The forward hand, W. Pycroft, grabbed the tillei and headed the boat up until Coleman swam up and climbed aboard. The boys then continued the race. The second round was completed as follows: k hrs. min. sec. \ Wellington .. 3 55 27 \ Kaiapoi .. 3 56 58 i Plimmerton ~ 3 58 43 | Christchurch, .. 3 58 47 / Timaru .. ~ 3 59 25 Paremata ..4 0 50 The wind had lightened at the commencement of the last round, buf freshened before the finish. Plimmerton was slow in gybing round the pier buoy, and Christchurch wenl ahead. Kaiapoi lost a little on the run, but on the beat up began to improve the position on Wellington. 11 looked like a close finish between Wellington and Kaiapoi, the Waimakirir; crew sailing a gcod race. They fought hard on the lead from the quarry to the finishing line, but Wellington maintained position, to win by 47 seconds. The "finish was:— hrs. min. sec. Wellington (K. Upton and C.
