FEARLESS WINS JUBILEE HANDICAP SILVER SEA SCORES TWICE (SPBCIAL TO THE PKSSS.) GREYMOUTH, January 3. The Westland Trotting Club's meeting was held to-day before a poor attendance. Heavy showers were fairly constant from the third race onwards, and the track, which was in good order for the first three races, developed rather a heavy state. In the earlier races the fields were small, but they improved. Only a few candidates showed anv great capability. Silver Sea gave two fine trotting exhibitions, winning both the imhoppled trotters' events. Fearless gave a line performance to win the Westland Cup. Moving off slowly and tangling badly in the run home impaired his chances, but he finished very fast, narrowlybeating the favourite. Isabel Derby and Shore Leave registered the easiest wins of the day, apart from Silver Sea's victories. The totalisator handled £2340, against £3598 last year, a decrease of £1258. The races were all run on a grass track. Results:DISTRICT HANDICAP, Id harness-'. Of 50 boy.*. stum hoc Ha:;;,. Owner 1 seen at the rear of the field, but made a good run down the back, and turned for home almost on terms with Great Shot. However, the effort told on him, and he just lasted long enough to beat Signaller for second. Signaller was labouring a long way from home, and Tauramai stopped badly, finishing last. Hunting Go was not disgraced. Won Easily All Sunshine was first into the straight in the Roslyn Trot, and won as she liked, though she was nearly caught napping by a late run by her stable mate, Happy Knight. Vologda was a good third after breaking badly at the start, and was unlucky. Fourth Win By annexing the Rosedale Handicap, Beam scored her fourth successive win in as many starts this season. She was responsible for a brilliant performance, as she was a long way back at the mile, and came round the field to win going away from Half Note, who was never further back than third in the running, and had every chance. Capital was close up, fifth, with four furlongs to go, when he got a bad knock, and dropped right back. Bay Duke stopped badly after making the pace to the distance from Coat of Arms, who also fizzled out. Silver Dart made up a lot of ground in the straight to finish a good third. The Final Event
Grand Finale, always well up. took charge inside the distance, and stalled off a hot challenge by Guarantee in the. last event. Toreador came with a great rattle into third place, and, better placed at the top of the straight, would have won. The favourite, Travenna, attempted to win all the way, but was beaten at the home turn. Last Link had every chance, and Silver Sight ran a bad race.

An Easy Win Lazy Pete, always handy behind the leading pair, Forest Maiden and La Rinkie, drew out at the straight entrance to win the District Handicap with a little in reserve from Superb, who finished brilliantly over the last quarter from well back. Silver Sea Impresses Lady Sonoma stood on the mark and took no part in the Rimu Trot Handican. Rose Chenault began smartly from Parette and Silver Sea. Parette broke at the far turn and Silver Sea ran up to the leader, Rose Chenault, who broke going out of the straight and Silver Sea assumed the lead, hav-itijs-a good advantage on Parette and iVTJmic. Silver Sea trotted faultlessly corning on to win with ease by 10 lengths from Parette, with Mimic four lengths back. Led Throughout Great Travis led throughout the Kanieri Handicap. The nearest attendants to Great Travis were Betty Jinks, War Sheila, Hermes, and Tollgate. The last-named bore out badly going out of the straight, losing a lot of ground, but came, fast over the last three furlongs outside the field, just failing to overhaul the leader. Betty Jinks ran an honest race into third place, and then came Hermes, War Sheila, Minnetonka, and Myra Chenault. Glockenspeil began poorly. Good Race by Fearless The Westland Handicap was run in drenching rain. Welcome Guy and Fearless were slow away. Insolvent was the first to show out, but-past the .stand the first time Peter Mitchell led Insolvent, Glengowrie, Sandy N., Fearless, Grand Author, Chancellor Boy, and Welcome Guy. At the back Peter Mitchell led Glengowrie, Insolvent, Grand Author, and Fearless. On the final circuit, Peter Mitchell led Sandy N., Insolvent, Glengowrie, Grand Author, and Fearless. Peter Mitchell led to within three furlongs from home, where Fearless and Grand Author shot to the front. Fearless was first into the straight half a length in front of Grand Author, but skipped badly and Grand Author took the lead. Fearless settled down quickly, however, to beat Grand Author in the run to the post' by a neck, with Insolvent a length back. Then came Glengowrie, Peter Mitchell, Sandy N., and Chancellor Boy. An Easy Victory In the Stafford Handicap, Isabel Derby spreadeagled the field. Arctic Voyage showed the way early to Betty Jinks, Glockenspeil, Minnetonka, Great Travis, Myra Chenault, Isabel Derby, and Hermes. Arctic Voyage broke up badly going past the stand, slowing 'tp the field. Hermes met with interference and fell. Myra Chenault took up the running going into the back from Betty Jinks and Great Travis. Three furlongs from home Isabel Derby simply cut down the opposition, leading into the. straight from Myra Chenault and Betty Jinks. Isabel Derby went on to win pulling up by eight lengths. Silver Sea's Second Win Silver Sea won the Dominion Trot Handicap even more convincingly than the Rimu Handicap, trotting evenly all the way to overtake the early pacemakers in the final circuit, and win pulling up with the greatest ease. Rose Chenault challenged Lady Sonoma in the run to the post, the latter boring over on Rose Chenault and gaining second place by a neck. Mimic did not improve on "the handicap and was well back fourth. Parette took no part in the race, failing to go away. H. Frost, the driver of Lady Sonoma, was fined £5 for reckless driving. An Untroubled Victory Shore Leave had an easy victory in the Aviation Handicap, hopping away smartly. Shore Leave established a good lead from Tollgate, with Atarau King, Neil Dillon, Superb, and Rollicking Wave following in a string. Rollicking Wave broke going into the back. Shore Leave was untroubled in tne run to the post, beating Tollgate by six lengths, with Atarau King three lengths back. Neil Dillon was a poor fourth, and then came Superb. A Narrow Win Dawn Sonoma showed the way early to Golden Square, Eastern Queen, Insolvent, Glengowrie, and Superb in the Final Handicap. Going out of the straight Dawn Sonoma bore out, Golden Square taking the lead. At the back Golden Square led Eastern Queen and Insolvent. Eastern Queen issued a hot challenge all the way down the straight, but Golden Square hung on leng enough to win by a bare half length from Eastern Queen, with Insolvent eight lengths back. Dawn Sonoma was fourth, and then came Glengowrie.
