SCRUB FIRE AT NEW BRIGHTON

The New Brighton Volunteer Fire Brigade received a call at 10.30 yesterday morning to a scrub fire on the Esplanade between Hood street and Rodney street. The fire was soon got under control by the use of the spray pump. With the strong easterly wind prevailing several houses in George street would have been endangered had the marram grass and lupin with which' the section was covered become well alight.
