PROFICIENCY EXAMINA- 1 TIONS ; Proficiency examinations for' pupils of the Lyttelton District High School, | the West Lyttelton School, the Lyttelton Convent Schools, and from schools near Lyttelton will be held j at the Lyttelton District High School I to-dav. Pupils of the District High, School, other than those sitting for! the examination, will be given a holiday to-day. Wyatt presided over a fair attendance 'of members. Sick pay amounting to .C 34 10s lOd was passed for pavment. The Noble Grand extended a 'welcome to the Noble Grand and members of the Loyal Kaia Toa Lodge, while the Noble Grand of that lodge, Sister lvl. Mauson, briefly responded to the welcome. It was resolved that a letter be sent to Past Prov. C.S.. Bro. A. McWilliams, congratulating him on attaining his eighty-seventh birthday, and expressing the best wishes of the members for his continued welfare. The installation of officers for the coming term was carried out by the Installing Officer. I.P.N.G. Bro. W. Smith, who installed tut,- following:--!.P.N.G.. Bro. J. E. Wyatt; N.G.. Bro. E. Glasson: R.S.V.G., P.O. Bro. John Taylor; L.S.V.G.. Bro. G. M. Lester. P.O. Bro. F. E. Sutton, on behalf of the lodge, presented P.G. Bro. W. Smith with a past officers' framed certificate. Bro. Smith suitably responded. P.G. Bro. J. H. Williams reported on the business transacted at the last meeting of the Friendly Societies' Council. The Prov. Grand Master, Bro. G. C. Taylor, extended an invitation to the officers and members of (lie lodge to accompany him to a church service at Holy Trinity Church on the evening of Sunday, December 10. The District Officers would attend, and he hoped for a large attendance of members of all Lyttelton lodges. The invitation was accepted. The Prov. C.S. notified that a purple lecture would be held on December 0. also a minor degree and past officers' lecture. Personal Mr and Mrs Frank Fowler, of Russell, are visiting Lyttelton. Mr Fowler is the principal lessee of the Harbour Light Theatre. St'. Saviour's Fair Thf annual Christmas fair of St. Saviour's Church was opened in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon. The various stalls did good business during ihe afternoon and evening. Concert items and competitions were held in the evening. The fair will be continued this afternoon and evening.
