The opinion that the Young Men's Christian Association did at least as much good as sermons from puipits in promoting spirituality among young people was expressed by the Governor-General (Lord Bledisloe) when opening the Memorial Hut at Petone. The Young Men's Christian Association, he said, did not look like Mrs Grundy at the innocent recreations and pleasures of young People, and did not prohibit Sports, 3 game of cards, or a dance.
