BEST WISHES FOR THE MAYOR
♦— •— DEPARTURE FOR MELBOURNE THIS WEEK The Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) will sail from Wellington on Thursday for Sydney, on his way to attend the Centenary celebrations at Melbourne. Mr Sullivan will be the guest of the Lord Mayor of Melbourne. The Mayor will meet the Mayoress, his daughter, and daughter-in-law in Sydney, and all four will travel to Melbourne, arriving there on October 13. Mr Sullivan, who will be absent in Australia until the middle of November, has received numerous messages from local bodies wishing him a pleasant holiday. The City Council passed a resolution at its meeting last night wishing the Mayor and the Mayoress a pleasant trip to Melbourne. Cr. J. K. Archer, moving the resolution, said that he hoped the Mayor would have a pleasant trip. The Mayor was in need of a holiday because of the arduous service he had given the city. Crs. E. H. Andrews, H. T. J. Thacker, A.. E. Armstrong, and W. Hayward also spoke. In reply, Mr Sullivan said that he would take the opportunity, while in Australia, to investigate municipal affairs.
Labour city councillors and members of the Labour Representation Committee, at a meeting on Saturday evening, passed a motion extending to the Mayor, for the Labour movement, best wishes for a pleasant holiday. At New Brighton, where a public meeting was held to discuss the transfer of married men to camps, a speaker for the Relief Workers' Association described the Mayor as a firm friend of the distressed, and extended to him best wishes for his holiday. Similar sentiments were expressed at a conference yesterday between the Mayor and representatives of the Metropolitan Relief Association.
