PICTURE PARTY
Mrs E. C. Frater (Rugby street) was hostess, last night, at a most enjoyable party given in honour of the birthday of her daughter, Miss Nancy Frater. The guests first enjoyed a programme at a picture theatre, and later were entertained at supper by Mrs Frater at the home of Mrs A. H. Corrick, Clissold street, Merivale. Those who enjoyed Mrs Frater's hospitality were Mrs Corrick, Mrs A. D. Allan, Misses Nancy Frater, Merle Corrick. AFTERNOON PARTY Yesterday afternoon, Misses Nancy and Joan Gard'ner gave a very pleasant party at' their home, Cashel street west, in honour of Miss Betty Guthrie, who will leave next month for England. The hall and dining-room were decorated with wallflowers, and in the dining-room primroses and daffodils were prettily arranged. Miss Nancy Gard*ner wore a frock of blotting paper pink crinkle crepe, with kilted frills outlining the square collar and weighting the hem. Miss Joan Gard'ner's frock of eggshell blue corded silk was made with short pleated sleeves. Miss Guthrie wore a beige and brown herringbone tweed suit, pink satin blouse, and pink felt hat stitched with brown. An amusing competition was won by Miss Agatha Upham. "FLAG 500" I'AHTV Boy ScouU in full uniform directed the guests at Frascati last night when a group committee of supporters held a successful "(lag 500" party to assist the funds of the Marist Brothers Boy Scouts. The tables had been arranged in the supper room at Frascati, decorated for the occasion with spring flowers and blossom. Members of the committee responsible for the arrangements were Mrs H. E. Ball. ORGANIST IJONOL'KED After the evening service at the Oxford Presbyterian Church a social hour was spent in honour of Miss Jean Baxter, whose marriage will take place shortly. Solos were sung by Mrs A. Forbes (Cust), Master Derek Wheeler, and by Mrs Finch, with harp accompaniment.
After supper, the Rev. N. Finch, on behalf of the congregation, presented Miss Baxter with a crystal bowl, and referred in complimentary terms to her valuable services as organist of the church, and as a singer. He wished her much future happiness.
Miss Jean Baxter was the guest of honour at a "kitchen" gift party held in the Coronation Hall, Oxford, on the eve of her approaching marriage. The time passed pleasantly with community singing and competitions, the latter being won by Mesdames R. J. T. Sharpe and W. Reed, and Miss Betty Knowles. Songs were sung by Mrs C. E. Johnson and Miss Jean Baxter. Miss S. Knowles was pianist. The hostesses were Mesdames W. Anderson, W. Beere, W. Fenwick, T. Inch, W. Higginson, R. A. Reynolds, and R. J. Sharpe. WOMEN'S CLUB The flowers arranged in the Canterbury Women's Club are always greatly admired by Visitors, and last night the hostess for the "500" party, Mrs F. H. East, had paid special attention to the decorative scheme, clusters of pale pink spring blossoms and freesias showing in contrast to the vases of violas and deep brown wallflowers, a bowl of freesias with water lilies and miniature frogs being very effective on the central table. Mrs East wore a black silk marocain frock trimmed with black, and white kiltinS in conventional design.
