WEST CHRISTCHURCH SCHOOL
TO THE EDITOB OF TUB PBES3. Sir, —Reading your article in "The Press" of Monday on the West Christ- ! church School, I fail to understanc why you should consider the Wesl Christchurch School committeemer should come away from their interview delighted and encouraged? Die you ever stop to consider why these self same committeemen opposed the Milne street proposal? It must be clear to all that the Minister for Education, after establishing an intermediate school at West Christchurch, is not going to admit it a failure before it has had a proper trial. In close proximity to the Wesl Christchurch school we have the Normal School, Sydenham and Addington Schols, which all should contribute to the intermediate school, thus giving the new scheme a chance to function as intended. It is hard tc understand why the Minister should alter the status of the school when the headmaster, Mr L. F. de Berry, makes the statement that, "There is a need in Christchurch for the type of school provided by West Christchurch." I think the West Christchurch School should remain as it is, with an intermediate department, and have three contributing schools to keep up the quota, and when times are more prosperous, the Minister might see his way clear to consider the Milne street proposal. It was mentioned in "The Press" a few weeks ago that in the near future we would have a number 11. technical college at Langdon's road, Papanui, which will help to serve that end of the city and relieve the overcrowding. In conclusion I would like to ask some of the present committeemen on the West Christchurch School why was it they did not give the householders (who were pleading for their infant children) the same consideration as they are now giving the parents and guardians of the present scholars? —Yours, etc., ADOLESCENT.
