BUSINESS MEN'S CLUB
♦____ . ANNUAL MEETING AND LUNCHEON The annual meeting and luncheon of the Christchurch Business Men's Club was held at Frascati yesterday afternoon. There was a large attendance of members. In his address, the retiring president, Mr H. B. Duckworth, said that at present the membership of the club stood at 104. There had been 20 luncheons during the year, with an average attendance of 45. Although the average attendance was only about half of the membership, he did not think that this indicated a falling off in the interest in the club; probably the reason was that the luncheons were held at an awkward time for business men, making it difficult for some to attend. He urged members with friends eligible to join the club to try to influence them to become members. Many friendships were made at the luncheons and gatherings held by the club. Mr Duckworth welcomed back to the club Messrs A. M. Burns and C. E. Jones, and thanked the secretary and treasurer for the assistance given during the year. The balance-sheet, which showed a I credit balance of £lB 9s 4d, was read and adopted, the secretary remarking that this could be regarded as very satisfactory. Three guineas out of the club's fund were granted to the Woolslon Band, which will represent New Zealand at the Melbourne Centenary celebrations. On behalf of the band, Mr Mawson Stewart thanked the club for the donation. The election of officers for the coming year resulted as follows:—President. Mr P. O'Connell; vice-president, Mr D. V. Wilson; committee, Messrs Peter Hocklev. Arthur Stewart, T. H. Munro. and H. E. Otley; hon. secre-
tary, Mr V. G. Spiller; hon. treasurer, Mr F. B. Wright; hon. auditor, Mr E. R. Caygill; and hon. solicitor, Mr W. J. Hunter.
