GREYMOUTH TENNIS (BPICI.iI. TO THB PHBSB.) GREYMOUTH. October 8. The .Greymouth Lawn Tennis Club officially opened the season on Saturday afternoon in ideal weather. The ccmbined yankee tournament was won by Mrs Fuller and Fowler. Mayor's Fund The Mayor's Relief of Distress Fund shows a credit balance of £139 14s 3d as at September 30, 1934. The boot repairing department report shows that since its establishment to September 30, 3262 pairs have been repaired, the value of the work done being £921 lbs. Cricket The cricket season in the district was opened yesterday with several friendly matches. At the Karoro Domain, Marist A defeated Marist B by 137 runs to 91. F. Bayley (31), J. Mathews (27 retired), and Lord (23 retired) were the principal scorers for the A team, while Clancy (17), J. Morris (12) and R. Pollock (11) did best for the B team. Bowling for the B team. L. Casev took three wickets for 23 runs, and E. Casey two for 38. O. Morris (three for 12) an:l Mathews (three for 26), and Debenham (two for 12) bowled best for the A team. Whippet Racing The Dunollie Whippet Club yesterday afternoon conducted another successful meeting at Dunollie. There was a good attendance, and some interesting racing was witnessed. Re-sults:—Light-weight Handicap: Snow Bells 1, Windsor Lass 2. Time, 14sec. Middle-weight Handicap: Sister Rose 1, Eight Stone Eight 2. Time. 12 l-ssec. Hurdles Handicap: Orion 1, Lenin Z. Time, 13 2-ssec. Maiden Hurdles Handicap: Jonah 1, Lonely Maid 2. Time, 14 2-ssec. Open Handicap: First hsat, Orion 1, Jonah 2. Time, 12 2-ssec. Second heat, Lenin 1, Lonely Maid 2. Time, 12sec. Final: Orion 1, Lonely Maid 2. Time, 12 l-ssec.
