GENERAL BUSINESS AT MEETING Toe Mayor, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., presided at a meeting of the Christclnircli City Council last night. Also present were:—Crs. E. R. McCcmbs. M.P., J. K. Archer, T. H. Butteriield. J. S. Barnctt, Mabel Howard, J. Mathison, A. E. Armstrong, H. T. J. Thacker, F. T. Evans, M. E. Lyons, T. Millikcn, T. Andrews, G. T. Thurston, E. 11. Andrews, and W. Hayward, I M.L.C. Purchase of Mowers The following quotations were received for the supply of two new single horse hay mowers:—Booth, Macdonakl (England), £2B 15s net; Massey Harris ("Canada), £24 lis 6d net; International Harvester (Sweden), £24 lis 6d net. The committee recommended the acceptance of Messrs Booth, Macdonald and Company's tender for a British machine. The recommendation was approved. Tenders Accepted The following tenders were received for low tension armoured cable for use in bringing out low tension circuits from sub-stations:—Vickery Electrical Company, £265 8s lOd; Enfield Cable Works, £265 13s; Richardson McCabe and Company, £270 12s; Turnbul] and Jones, £2T3 4s Id; National Electrical Company, £276 2s; Tolley and Son, £322 3s. The lowest tender was accepted, the cable being of British manufacture. The tender of N. T. Webb at £666, which had been accepted by the electricity committee for the erection of two sub-stations, was endorsed. Tne following tenders had been considered by the committee:—N. T. Webb, £660; Victor J. Moir. £683: Voss and RadclifiV. £GOG; J. Hammett and Sons, £710: G. Head. £724; G. L. Bull, £BO7. Water Pipes for Colombo Street The tender of Hume Steel. Ltd., at £1502 18s 4d was accepted for the supply of water pipes for Colombo street. Other tenderers were John Burns and Company, Stewart and Lloyds. John Duthie and Company, and Gilbert Lodge and Company. The tender of Petersons, Ltd., at £3O (or overhauling the Sydenham Post Office cloctf. and maintaining and winding it for a year was accepted. F. R. Thrower, £3O 10s, and H. C. and F. W. Thrower. £32 10s. were the other tenderer:-.. Street Name Changed I The name of Cemetery road was changed to Butterfield avenue. Additions to Spreydon Hail A suggestion from the finance committee that the electricity committee advance money from its suspense account to make additions to the Coronation Hall, Spreydon, was adopted. Relief Workers in Reserves The average number of men employed a week by the reserves department was as follows: Men working 12 days a month, 104; men working nine days a month, 189; men working seven days a month, 1; men working six days a month, 1: men receiving no subsidy, 2; total, ?97. ■ Purchase of Two Tractors On the recommendation of the reserves committer it was decided to purchase two tractors for use in keeping the city parks in order. The net price for the two machines from the International Harvester Company, Ltd., was given as £335. The price included a special discount and a trade-in allowance. The recommendation of the works committee that a deserted dwelling at 156 Ensor's road be demolished was adopted.
